The Australian Historical Association (AHA) is committed to inclusivity with regard to race, class, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender expression and identity, sexual orientation, and physical abilities in terms of participation and topics discussed at itsconferences, and all other AHA activities. The AHA Executive expects all members and participants in AHA events to respect and adhere to these principles of diversity and inclusion.

The theme for AHA2018 is 'The Scale of History'. See the full call for papers for more details, including a list of conference streams.

An updated final program is now available (1 July) in PDF format below. (If you are going to print it, please note that it is A3 size.) Minor changes reflect late withdrawals and the following:

  • Wednesday, 0900-1030 The Power of Popular Culture, featuring Fiona Fraser and James Findlay (Arndt Tutorial Room 3) has moved to Thursday, 1330-1500 (Arndt Tutorial Room 4)

Please check the program so that you know where and when you are presenting and/or chairing. We’d like to draw your attention to the online version of the program which we can keep current. The online program works quite well on desktops and even on your smartphone. You can search by presenter name or paper title, read abstracts and presenter biographies, and take notes. You can even ‘favourite’ particular items and view those separately, enabling you to plan your conference.

Abstracts are available for you to download to your computer or print if you desire. It contains descriptions of all presentations at AHA2018, including the keynote addresses, plenary panel, lunchtime forums, roundtable discussions, and individual papers. It includes an email address, website or twitter handle for each presenter, if provided.

We are in the unfortunate position that we have had to close registrations for AHA2018 as we have reached capacity. We regret that we are unable to accommodate the high level of interest in the conference.

For those who missed out, we have a number of stimulating roundtable discussions in the Copland Theatre that will be open to the general public. Further details can be found on the PDF flyer below.
